Singing In The Rain (Or Drizzle!)

Saturday 1st December, the start of Wokingham’s Living Advent Calendar and the Barberettes found themselves singing (in the rain) at Wokingham’s small business event.

I was expecting to get a little wet but was delighted to see a gazebo had been put up to shelter the performers for the day. We took the stand along side an amazing balloon modeller, who was creating some extraordinary images of reindeer and snowmen. We were also positioned in front of a fruit and veg stall, most of us on the front row, were astounded by the size and price of his cauliflowers!

We sang three sets over a couple of hours bringing a little bit of Christmas cheer to the shoppers and passers by – one lady was so impressed she asked for the details of our Chorus, as she is interested in joining us.

It is always difficult singing outside, especially in the rain but we did a good job and sang our little hearts out. Emma, our fab MD, had to put up with a constant drip from the edge of the gazebo and the hidden giggles from the chorus whilst conducting. However, one set in we managed to encourage the sun to make an appearance so we inched out from under the gazebo to be closer to an appreciative audience in the form of market traders and shoppers.

‘White Christmas’, ‘Jingle Bells’, ‘Chestnuts Roasting By An Open Fire’ and ‘Feliz Navidad’ were the songs that people enjoyed most and it felt great to put a smile on a few faces and even get a few people wiggling their hips to our efforts.

If you fancy coming along and having a listen – and even singing along with us – we will be singing at the Lord Raglan on Thursday 6th December. More details on our Upcoming Events page.
