Ending 2019 at the Lexicon

By Naomi Richardson, Lead
Sunday 22nd December was our final sing-out of 2019 – Oh no it wasn’t – Oh yes it was! What a lovely festive location we had– in front of the enormous Christmas tree in the centre of Bracknell. As this was an open air performance we were really glad it was dry today after all the rain we’ve had recently and we even got to enjoy some gorgeous winter sunshine while we sang.  The town centre was bustling with shoppers and they seemed to appreciate our opening number a rousing rendition of one of the oldest carols “The Boar’s Head”. We sang lots of Christmas favourites : Winter Wonderland, Jingle Bell Rock and Rocking around the Christmas Tree to name but a few and it was lovely to see so many people singing along.  We loved the opportunity to sing our beautiful new song, “Mary did you know?”

What made Sunday extra special was that lots of friends and family came along to support us  and it was lovely to see young and old enjoying the festive spirit and singing along to Jingle Bells. After a quick coffee break to warm up our toes we came back for our final set and threw in some fun songs from our general repertoire, “We Go Together” from Grease and Queen’s  “Crazy little thing called Love” which raised a smile from some passing police officers.

We ended with a lively version of Feliz Navidad which was enioyed by all. It was amazing to see how generous passers-by were as we
were collecting for the Lexicon’s Charity Fund. It was lovely to end the year on such a high and to be able to wish everyone a merry Christmas. I can’t wait to get together for our yearly celebratory meal on 8th January. We’re looking forward to lots more fun and adventures next year, rumour has it we might be learning an Abba medley and lots of exciting singouts are planned.
Have a wonderful Christmas everyone!
