Christmas comes to The Broad Street Tavern

By Linda Barlow, Baritone

Monday 9th December was the Barbs’s second Christmas singout, showing off our new glittery skirts with red top and boots again.

This time the event was the Wokingham Living Advent Calendar and our venue was the Broad Street Tavern.

Twenty-one of us, including our director Emma, arrived around 5:45 to prepare to sing. We had a quick warm-up while recording equipment was set up and at 6pm were introduced to a good sized audience by the Mayoress.

We started our set with “The Boar’s Head Carol”, the earliest song we have in our repertoire, and followed it with a selection of mostly well known Christmas songs although we did fit our newest song, “Mary Did You Know” into the mix.

Since we were a little short of leads when we came to “Jingle Bells” Emma asked the audience to join in singing the tune and I noticed a lot of people were having fun singing along with us.

It was a very enjoyable event for everyone, both the Barbs and the audience and I hope we made a lot money for the charity of the day, Thames Hospice.

Looking forward to singing with the Waltham Silver Band on Sunday 15th December from 5.30pm at London Valley Hall in Twyford as part of their community event.
